Dear St. Kateri Families,

📚 EQAO Assessments Begin This Week
Our Grade 3 and Grade 6 students will begin their EQAO assessments this week. We are very proud of the hard work, preparation, and perseverance they have shown throughout the year.

Families can help support students by ensuring they have:

  • A good night’s sleep
  • A healthy breakfast
  • Positive encouragement and reassurance

We know our students are ready to do their best, and we thank our families for the support and encouragement you provide each day.

🌟 Welcome to Kindergarten
We are also excited to welcome our newest students and families to our upcoming Welcome to Kindergarten event on May 27th. This is always a wonderful opportunity for families to meet staff, explore the school, and begin building connections within our school community. We look forward to meeting all of our future students and welcoming them to our school family.

☕ Volunteer Appreciation Tea & Catholic School Council
We would also like to thank the many parents and guardians who have supported our school throughout the year — whether through class trips, hot lunch programs, school events, or our Catholic School Council. Your support makes a tremendous difference in the experiences we are able to provide for our students.

We look forward to recognizing and celebrating our volunteers at our upcoming Volunteer Tea. Invitations will be forthcoming.

A reminder that our next Catholic School Council meeting will take place on:
📅 June 1, 2026
🕖 7:00 PM

Important Information for School Volunteers

We are incredibly grateful for the time, energy, and support our parent volunteers provide throughout the school year. Whether assisting on trips, helping at events, supporting classrooms, or participating in school activities, your involvement helps strengthen our school community and enriches the experience for all students.

As part of updated York Catholic District School Board procedures and provincial requirements regarding volunteer screening, all volunteers will now be required to complete a standardized process before participating in school volunteer activities.

If you are hoping to volunteer at the school this year or in the future, we encourage families to begin the process as soon as possible, as some steps can take time to complete.

To volunteer within the school, parents/guardians will be required to:

  • Complete a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) through their local police service
    • Submit the completed VSC to the school
    • Sign a Volunteer Confidentiality Agreement
    • Complete an Annual Criminal Offence Declaration each year between police check renewal periods

Please note that Vulnerable Sector Checks are mandatory for all school volunteers under the updated Board process.

These updated procedures are part of the Board’s efforts to ensure:
• Consistent volunteer screening practices across all schools
• Safe and supportive learning environments for students
• Clear confidentiality and privacy expectations
• Proper tracking of volunteer documentation and renewal timelines

We know many families generously give their time throughout the year, and we truly appreciate your continued partnership and support. Beginning the process early will help ensure you are approved and ready to participate in upcoming volunteer opportunities, school trips, and events.

Additional information and required forms will be shared through the school office.

Thank you again for supporting our students and school community!
