The Virtue of the month is Unity
The YCDSB and St. Kateri celebrate the virtue of unity and the character trait of inclusiveness in the month of January. “Christ always gives his Church the gift of unity, but the Church must always pray and work to maintain, reinforce, and perfect the unity that Christ calls her to live. This is why Jesus himself prayed at the hour of his Passion, and does not cease praying to God, for the unity of his disciples: ‘That they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be one in us, . . . so that the world may know that you have sent me.’ The desire to recover the unity of all Christians is a gift of Christ and a call of the Holy Spirit.” CCC §820
The Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectation of the month
We expect our St. Kateri students to become a collaborative contributor who find meaning, dignity and vocation in their work which respects the rights of all and contributes to the common good.
Equity Events in January
This month we recognize the anniversaries of the death of Mahatma Gandhi and the birth of his protégé, Martin Luther King Jr. Both social justice figures had a major influence on movements for social improvement in the last hundred years. January 21st is Lincoln Alexander Day, who was a pioneer in the fight for racial equity in Canada.
Mental Health Assembly
This year January 25th is Bell Let’s Talk Day, the annual day of awareness designed to break the silence around mental illness and support mental health all across Canada. We at St. Kateri will gather together at 10:50 for an assembly. We invite our community to come and join us in our gymnasium to break the stigma of mental health.
Happy Lunar New Year
Happy New Year to our families who celebrate the Lunar New Year. It began on Saturday, January 21 (Lunar Eve) and is celebrated on today, it marks the beginning of the Year of the Rabbit.
St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic School Council News
The next Catholic School Council is scheduled for February 22nd, 2023 @7pm in the school library.
The scheduled Pizza Lunch from January 19, 2023 that was missed will now happen on Tuesday, January 24th, 2023.

St. Kateri Tekakwitha’s First Communion Mass will be held on Saturday, May 13th, at 11:00 am at St. Mark’s Church in Stouffville.
Each family will be assigned one pew in the church which seats 9 people including the child who is receiving his/her First Communion.
There will be more information in regards to specific details regarding your child’s First Communion Mass coming in further emails from the Parish team.
Please note that you will also be receiving another email shortly informing you of your child’s First Reconciliation date and time.
All First Reconciliations will take place at St. Brother Andre Catholic high school.

Winter Walk to School Day – February 1, 2023
Physical activity is essential to our health and well-being. Time spent outside is important for mental health, increased physical activity, and social well-being. Children who are active have improved moods and academic performance and are able to focus better in class. St. Kateri let’s embrace the weather ☃️ ❄️and celebrate Winter Walk Day together on Wednesday, February 1, 2023.
