📅 This Week at SKTA! (Feb. 23 to 27)🌟
Dear St. Kateri Families,
As a school community, we hope that many of you were able to join in the celebration of Ash Wednesday. In place of our planned school liturgy with Fr. Rick last week due to transportation being cancelled for inclement weather, each class participated in a small classroom liturgy to mark the beginning of Lent and to set our community’s focus for this sacred season.
The Lenten season invites us to pause, reflect, and prepare our hearts through prayer, Scripture, acts of kindness, and sacrifice. Over these forty days, students are encouraged to renew their baptismal promises and deepen their faith as we journey toward Easter.
Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and concludes on Holy Thursday, commemorating the Last Supper Jesus shared with His disciples. This leads us into the Easter Triduum—Holy Thursday evening, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter Sunday—which celebrates the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus. These sacred days form the heart of our Easter celebration and remind us of Christ’s great love and the hope found in His Resurrection.
We look forward to walking this faith journey together as a school community during this special season.
Below are some important details and upcoming events for another busy week at our school.
Holy Land School Fundraiser on Feb 27, 2026: As part of our Lenten observances, I am proud to share that our school will participate in a board-wide fundraising initiative to support Christian schools in the Holy Land. On February 27, 2027, students are asked to donate a toonie as we will provide an extra recess to each division on this day. The money raised will support the Latin Patriarchate school system, which educates nearly 19,000 students of all faiths in 44 K–12 schools in Jordan, Palestine and Israel. This school system and the local Christian community have experienced significant financial hardship due to the pandemic and recent regional conflicts. All funds raised by the YCDSB will be donated to the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. This lay Catholic organization is raising $12 million to repair school buildings and pay teacher salaries. For more information on this initiative, please click here to watch a video from the EOHSJ or click here to read an info sheet. Thank you for your generosity. Together, we help the children in the Holy Land and create a brighter future for all who live there.

As we conclude the first session of our Hot Lunch Program, we look forward to offering a second session. As in the past, all orders will be placed exclusively through School-Day. Please stay tuned for further details, which will be shared soon.
