This Week at SKTA (April 1 to 5)

The Virtue of Reverence

This month we celebrate the virtues of reverence and respect. Reverence or “fear of the Lord” as it is more traditionally known, refers to the proper attitude we are meant to have toward God. Respect for all persons is another dimension of reverence. Respect literally means to see the other person with new eyes. In a sense, reverence asks us not only to respect one another, but also to have reverence for one another and God.

Equity Events

April is World Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month.  April starts with Golden Rule Week, an interfaith celebration of the moral code found in many religions.  April 2 is World Autism Awareness Day (Wear Blue Spirit Day).  April 28th is the National Day of Mourning, a day established by the Canadian Labour Congress in 1984 to remember and honour those who have died, been injured or suffered illness in the workplace.

Safety Reminder

Parents and guardians must park in a spot if they wish to escort their child(ren) to the gates of the school playground. When cars are left parked in the Kiss and Ride, we have a long line of cars waiting to drop children off for the day.

Families using the Kiss and Ride are asked to proceed past the pylons in the Kiss & Ride lot and pull over to the curb to drop off their child(ren).

We would also like to ask our families to keep the use of the handicap parking spots for those families that require these special spots.

Dress Code Reminder

With the return of the warmer weather we would like to remind families that all student attire must be in keeping with our Catholic teachings and beliefs, and reflect principles of modesty and shall not include the following:

  • Halter tops, tank tops, spaghetti strap tops (narrower in width than 3 fingers) or tube tops
  • Half t-shirts, tops with cut-outs, tops made of mesh or netting type material
  • Short shorts or skirts
  • Low necklines, front or back
  • Language and/or representation (pictures) on attire that indicates gang affiliation and/or depicts violence, profanity or discrimination of any kind whatsoever or that otherwise demeans an identifiable individual or group
  • Accessories not in keeping with the spirit of the Dress Code as determined by the local school

Tops, pants, shorts and skirts must cover the entire midriff.

Scooters/Skateboards and Bicycles at SKTA

As the weather continues to get warmer, it is great to see students using various modes of transportation to get to school other than a car or bus. Students are reminded that Scooters, Skateboard and bicycles are not to be used on school grounds during the course of the day.
