Thanksgiving Dinner Prayer

Heavenly Father, on Thanksgiving Day, we bow our hearts to You and pray.

We give You thanks for all You’ve done, especially for the gift of Jesus, Your Son.

For beauty in nature, Your glory we see, for joy and health, friends, and family.

On behalf of the Markham Food Bank, I would like to say “Thank You”. It was truly amazing to see the amount of food and toiletry donated by our school community in support of the families in need during our week long food drive culminating today.

We would like to wish all of our families and friends in the St. Kateri Tekakwitha community has a blessed and joyous Thanksgiving. This is a great weekend to celebrate all the beauty in creation and the many gifts we have in our lives.

Winter Coat Drive

The York Region conferences of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Society along with the Salvation Army and St Paul’s Lutheran Church are working together again this year to make sure this important project continues. This fall St. Kateri Tekakwitha CES will be participating in the Winter Coat Drive.

For over 10 years SSVP has been organizing this initiative to help families in York Region who struggle to make ends meet through the long winter months. Our school community has always supported this project generously! We hope that you can help us out by looking through your closets and donating any coats that are no longer needed by you or your family and your neighbours. We need coats in good condition for men, women and children…all sizes! Coats will be accepted until October 12th, 2022 at our school. Please send all coats tied up in plastic bags for ease of transport.

Thank you for sharing and for your ongoing support of the work of

Saint Vincent de Paul in our community!

Halloween Costumes

Halloween this year at St. Kateri Tekakwitha will mark the return of our Halloween school fundraiser and with this we know our students are excited to get dressed up and celebrate together. We would like to remind our families that when considering costumes for their child to keep in mind:

  1. Culture is NOT Costume: Please refrain from using costumes that represent a cultural group or ethnicity. (e.g. Indigenous, Chinese, Arabic, etc.)
  2. Masks as Part of a Costume are Discouraged (Excluding PPE): Wearing masks that conceal one’s identity can compromise the safety of the community. We should always be identifiable in our community for the safety and comfort level of others in the community.
  3. Awareness of Costume Appropriateness is Important: Costumes that are not appropriate to the moral tone of our Catholic Schools.
  4. Awareness of Fear and Evil: Be aware that Ghoulish costumes can terrify younger students, students with special needs, or students with phobias.
  5. We Must Be Trauma Sensitive: There may be members of our communities who have traumas that can be triggered by certain costumes.
  6. When in Doubt, Think Saint: Halloween precedes All Souls and All Saints Days. Encourage students to dress as saints and religious figures.
