Jungle Sport

We are excited and pleased to bring Junglesport, an adventure and climbing program, back to our school this year while respecting all health and safety protocols currently in place in our school.  The program was met with great success in previous years and will include participation for all students from FDK to Grade 8.

A permission Letter and Element of Risk form was sent home earlier this past week. If it has been misplaced a digital copy is available below. If you have any questions please feel free to contact the school.

World Down Syndrome Day

World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate people with Down Syndrome around the globe. In 2012, the United Nations declared March 21st, the 21st day of the 3rd month of the year, as WDSD.  This signifies the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome. This day was also declared Ontario Down Syndrome Day by the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in 2016.

As a school community to show our support and help raise awareness about World Down Syndrome Day, we would like to encourage everyone to wear mismatched socks for the day.

Virtual School Option for 2022/23 School Year

The Ministry of Education has directed school boards to provide a remote learning, virtual school option for students. To accurately prepare for next year, this survey is being conducted now in order to ensure that the number of classes needed for a virtual school can be allocated from our overall student enrolment.

Please fill out the short survey below ONLY if you want to request remote learning in a virtual school for your child for the 2022-2023 school year.  If you have more than one child for whom you want to request remote learning, please complete a separate survey for each child.

In order to assist your family in making your decision the following should be considered:

     *     The virtual school will not be attached to any existing school.  There will be no hybrid learning.  Students will be in a virtual classroom with a teacher assigned centrally from the school board for the entire school year.  Instruction will be synchronous.

     *     Specialty programs will not be available in the virtual elementary or secondary school (i.e. French Immersion, Italian, International Baccalaureate, Advanced Placement/PACE, Regional Arts, High Performance Athlete, etc.)

     *     There will be many split classes in the virtual elementary and secondary school.

    *     There will be a limited number of elective course offerings for secondary school students. Many courses such as physical education will not be available virtually.  While every effort will be made to provide a variety of elective courses, families choosing remote must recognize that the number of electives will be limited and will not be finalized until the start of the school year.  It is important to note that some post-secondary programs may require specialized course credits. Please be aware that selecting the virtual school option may limit your access to course offerings required for post-secondary program admissions.

     *     Co-curricular activities and all celebrations, including Grade 8 and 12 Graduation will only be available virtually for the virtual school.

     *     Courses taken at the virtual school cannot be used toward the two eLearning credits required for graduation. However, students may be able to take a daytime eLearning asynchronous course to satisfy this graduation requirement if the course is available or if they have already selected it for next year.

     *     Students with special education needs will continue to be supported in both in-person learning or virtual learning.

The deadline to submit this survey is midnight on Monday, March 21, 2022.

Thank you for your understanding as we carefully plan for the 2022-2023 school year.

Returning to School Update

On March 9, 2022, the Government of Ontario announced their plan to lift many of the COVID-19 health and safety measures in public spaces and schools, effective Monday, March 21, 2022.

This means that after March Break:

  • Students, staff and school visitors will no longer be required to wear masks in school or when riding school transportation. Individuals who feel more comfortable or who are advised by their health professional to wear a mask may continue to wear a mask and will be supported in doing so.
  • Please note that upon return from international travel, individuals must wear a mask at all times when in public places including schools for a period of 14 days.
  • Staff and students will no longer be required to confirm daily screening. However, students, staff and visitors should continue to review and adhere to the COVID-19 School and Child-Care Screening Tool prior to entering the school each day. Isolation requirements have been revised.
  • Students and staff will no longer be required to remain in cohorts indoors or outdoors, and will no longer be required to physically distance.
  • Gatherings in school will be permitted which means assemblies, Mass, graduations and proms can take place.

A number of health measures will remain in place:

  • Appropriate hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette will be promoted and integrated throughout the school day.
  • The enhanced cleaning protocols that are currently in place in our schools will continue.
  • HEPA units are being placed in every classroom as we receive them from the Ministry.
  • High-level mechanical ventilation standards will be maintained.
  • For the time being, principals will continue to report student absenteeism to the Ministry on a daily basis and consult with York Region Public Health when absenteeism is high.
  • Rapid Antigen Tests will be provided to staff and students who request them in order to support symptomatic testing.
  • Anyone who is sick or has any new or worsening symptoms of illness are to stay home until their symptoms are improving for 24 hours (or 48 hours for nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea).
